I follow
With wavelets lapping at their heels
A pair, small, shallow, close together
Another, big, deep, farther apart 
Lead into oblivion
Footprints in the sand

The small get bigger, deeper
Their stride widen
The large stay the same
Lag slightly behind 
Footprints in the sand 
I follow

The small
Now big and determined 
Forge ahead far into the horizon
I scour for the other pair
And find them under my feet
The ocean sweeps the beach
Erasing footprints behind me
Around me

Footprints in the sand
My gaze follows
With wonder in my eyes
And aching love in my chest 
Where will they lead?
As I taste the ocean roll down my cheeks
